Opening thoughts

This is my first official blog and I’m excited to see where these thoughts take me. I’ve been a student of worship since college, devoting my life to leading worship after hearing a call from God to do so. I have learned so much about worship, about liturgy, about people, and ministry, and most importantly, about God, since choosing this path in life.
First I must say that worship is a constant in life. We as Christians must remember that how we worship God is as important as when and why. What changes is our perspective: how we view God, how we view ourselves, etc.
I want to be a person who comes to understand who I am in Christ. I know that the more I come to know myself, the more I come to a position of worship, which lead me to my next thought: position.
Positioning is everything when it comes to worship. So much of our experiences dictate how, when, and why we worship. Every time we come to worship God, we go through a series of thoughts. Each thought related to another somehow, and through these thoughts, we find ourselves responding.
I remember reading in the Bible a proverb that said this, “Committ your works to the Lord, and He will establish your thoughts.” Another translation reads “Committ to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”
I’ve learned that every time I come to worship the Lord, it’s a matter of positioning myself in a way that’s committed to God. How does this look? Well, it might look different from person to person. For myself, there are times when I must committ my body to the Lord as I begin to worship, because I’m either tired, sick, or just plain lazy. Remember the verse that says to love the Lord with all your heart, mind, body, and strenghth? This is part of the positioning!
Other times I must position my mind and committ my thoughts to the Lord, because my thoughts are not focused on worshipping Him. Sometimes I’m thinking about what’s going to happen after I’m done spending time with God, some times I’m not thinking at all. Regardless, God wants my mind to be focused on Him and His purposes for time that I have with Him. This requires me to committ my mind to the Lord, positioning my mind to engage with God. Positioning is so much a part of being a worshipper. I know this to be true because God requires us to put ourselves in a place where we can be in submission to Him, as a servant.
If you’d like some places to further your education on worship, I’d like to suggest a couple:
Enjoy!
